WELCOME

The 15th International Conference of Historical Geographers will be held in Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic (EU), located “in the heart of Europe”. Prague was founded in the late 10th century almost in the centre of Bohemia, i.e. the western part of Czechia/Czech Republic.

The conference will take place at Charles University in the main building of the Faculty of Science situated in downtown Prague.

The international conference of historical geographers arose from a meeting of Canadian and British historical geographers held in Canada in 1975. Four subsequent meetings held in Britain, Canada and the USA were called “CUKANZUS” conferences. They increasingly attracted scholars from other countries, especially from Europe. This progress inspired the organizers of the sixth meeting, held in 1986 in Baton Rouge, U.S.A., to name it the Sixth International Conference of Historical Geographers. Since then these conferences have been held under this new title every three years in different parts of the world. The Prague conference is historically the first to be held in a post-communist country. It will be open to all historical geographers and scholars using historical (or spatial) approaches, and also to scholars in the related disciplines of geography, history, environmental history, landscape ecology, etc.
